چکیده

Synergism of fenvalerate with piperonyl butoxide (PB), NIA-16388 (NIA), S-421, and MGK-264 on both susceptible (S) and fenvalerate-selected (FS) strains of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella L, were determined in laboratory tests. Further, combinations of fenvalerate and these synergists were tested for their efficacies against resistant strain under field conditions in the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Fenvalerate/PB showed higher synergism and efficacy than combinations of fenvalerate with other synergists against FS and pyrethroidsresistant strains in t h e field. A 1:3 ratio for fenvalerate and PB seemed to be optimal for the control of resistant diamondback moth. Combinations of fenvalerate with NIA, S-421 or MGK-264 showed slight synergism on the FS strain in the laboratory tests, whereas combinations with NIA and S-421 showed efficacy similar to that of combination with PB in the field test. S-strain of diamondback moth was selected by fenvalerate alone and in combination with PB. Selection by fenvalerate alone developed resistance, whereas selection by fenvalerate/PB resulted in a somewhat lower level of resistance. This suggests that fenvalerate/PB may be effective in preventing or retarding the diamondback moth from developing resistance.

Insecticide Resistance in Diamondback Moth

High levels of resistance to the major categories of insecticides, ie, organophosphorus, carbamates, pyrethroids, and DDT, have been detected in the diamondback moth in Taiwan. Synergist studies have provided insufficient evidence to show significant involvement of known metabolic systems, such as microsomal oxidation, esterase hydrolysis, and glutathione conjugation in organophosphorus and car...

Biochemical and Physiologial Characteristics of Insecticide Resistance in Diamondback Moth

A pyrethroid-resistant strain of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.), originally collected in Thailand showed cross-resistance to all the pyrethroids tested. Upon further selection with fenvalerate in the laboratory, the strain exhibited an extremely high LD50 value, 41 μg/larva, for fenvalerate. In genetic studies of the resistance, the F1 progeny showed recessive gene(s), while the...

Deltamethrin resistance in some diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella populations in Iran

The diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella has been developed resistance to many groups of pesticides including of pyrethroids. The present study was conducted to evaluate the toxicity of deltamethrin on the third instar larvae of six populations of the pest using leaf dipping method. The results showed that different populations had different susceptibilities to deltamethrin. At the LC50 level,...

Toxicity of Insecticides to Cotesia plutellae, a Parasitoid of Diamondback Moth

Toxicity of 17 commonly used insecticides used to control diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) was evaluated against adults of Cotesia plutellae Kurdjumov. The insecticide concentrations studied were equivalent to those recommended in the field. Adults of the parasitoid were released into exposure kits with fresh dry insecticide film for 24 hours, at which time mortalities were noted. The...

QTL analysis for diamondback moth resistance in canola (Brassica napus L.)

Diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella L. is the most injurious defoliage insect pest of canola in Ardabil province of Iran. It occurs annually and causes damage in canola fields. This study was performed to identify QTLs controlling resistance to diamondback moth using SSR and RAPD markers. An F2:4 population of 180 families derived from crossing between cv. ‘SLMO46’ and cv. ‘Quantum’ wer...
